This is where I plan to share what I'm working on now. This is actually where I went last week, more on these bike accessories later. I hope you come back and check out what's under my needle. Take care, and see you soon!

Upcycle Fun & Adventure

I needed a new sewing table, because the table I was using is glass, and any time I tried to sew a little faster, the table would jump, not good. So I follow a group of sewists on FB and found the inspiration that I was looking for!

The Inspiration table, beautiful

But this table didn’t have an adjustable shelf for the machine to sit on, but they shared a link that would be perfect!.

this site shared the table plans:

I just needed to see if my husband was game, he was and I found a table within 3 miles of home! It seemed to have a bit of weight to it and it was stamped “Made in Italy” on the bottom, but who knows, maybe it was! It was a heavy wood to cut through.

It was the right size to fit in my room. I wanted a table to have my machine set into on one side, and a space for virtual teaching, and space to put my large desktop screen that I can swivel around to watch Youtube how to videos. I also needed space for occasional use of my serger, and cutting mats.

-Cut the hole! I shared the videos above with my husband, he ordered a saw, and we traced the base of the machine. He practiced and then went for it!

- He then had to add notches for the cords, and a hole in the front for the knee lift.

- Next up, make the shelf underneath for the machine to sit on.

The long screws were there so that the shelf could be adjusted.

  1. Next he sanded everything, and I started to think more seriously about how I wanted it to be finished. We had refinished this chair last year, again my husband doing all the hard work, and I added the silliness. I shared this picture with my FB community and asked whether I should do the same paint treatment to the table or leave ii. While most said to paint it to match my little chair, some said leave it. When I saw how beautiful the wood was, I decided I couldn’t paint all over the legs when there was beautiful wood underneath that my husband had uncovered….

  1. I used my ipad and a free app called Sketches to try out some looks. You use an Apple Pencil to color over your photo.:

There were different color water based stains, but I decided on Varathane- Weathered Oak

As for the legs, I toned it down a bit: I started with a lot of tape and base coat.

I used paint daubers for the polka dots, super easy!

And I’m happy with how they turned out:

  1. Next came the measurement markings. When sewing, I find it super handy to have inches and centimeters easily accessible.

  1. After two coats of stain came three coats of Minwax Polyacrylic varnish

  1. We brought in the top, then the legs and he put it all back together once it was in the room.

IMac is on a swivel base, so I can see it while sewing. We added a pot rack on the end of the table.

One last thing we added was a pot hanger for all my tools

I hope you enjoyed the story, It is hard to pry me out of my happy space ;0):
